Ok, so I’ve been beyond bad at keeping up with the blog again and no matter how hard I try, it just slips sometimes. As always, however, it’s because I’m working and I have some great stuff to tell you and show you.
I was lucky enough to be able to attend a workshop given by Holly Becker of Decor8 and Leslie Shewring of A Creative Mint. These are both inspiring and amazing women and when I heard they were going to do a workshop in NYC I had to sign up. I only went to the second day which focused on photo styling and it was amazing. Both Holly and Leslie were such down to earth, real people and it was quite refreshing to see that their huge success has not taken away their warmth and friendliness. The class was very cozy and we were able to shoot and get direction from them and it was just a wonderful experience.
Apart from learning how to really take advantage of and use our cameras, we were taught to think differently when we shoot and personally, I started noticing a difference right away as we were shooting in class.
It’s amazing what direction and real inspiration can bring to the table in terms of making your photos look a whole lot better. I came back home so inspired and I really want to make a trip this coming weekend to get some flowers and start shooting. I definitely noticed flowers make a big difference in some photos so I’d like to start working with them more. Sometimes it’s just hard to make that trip out when you’re taking care of the baby or the house or when a client is calling and wants something done. I think what I’d like to do is give myself a shooting day, preferably a weekend day, where I can make a quick trip and get some fresh flowers and then set myself up to shoot. It might be a good idea for my schedule as I would be able to print all week and then photograph on a Saturday and really enjoy it.
So here are some of the photos I shot while in class.
I’ll be back on a little later to show the photos I shot here at home for a new wedding suite I’m working on. I’m quite happy with the suite and I definitely want to apply what I learned this weekend. We’ll see how it goes.
